Clean Water Action- Clean Energy Bill
A email received today…please read and take action if so moved.
Urgent!
House Vote on Energy Bill Imminent
I am writing to you because we are on the verge of an historic clean energy victory in the U.S. Congress. After years of energy policy that has subsidized the oil, coal and nuclear industries, we are at the threshold of a much more sustainable energy future. We can begin to put the brakes on global warming and the tragic health effects of a misguided energy policy. We’re almost there, but we need your help!
When I took on the job of President of Clean Water Action just two months ago, I was not particularly optimistic that our leaders in Congress would rise to occasion and pass an energy bill that includes a big step forward toward increasing vehicle fuel efficiency and our use of clean, renewable electricity sources. Clean Water Action has been working with citizens in strategically selected states and in Washington, DC to press for change and our combined voices have been heard.
Today, these goals are in sight. Congress has heard the calls for energy policy that creates jobs, saves consumers money, reduces global warming pollution, and protects the health of our communities by making our water and air cleaner. As I write to you, members of the U.S. Congress are putting the last touches on an Energy bill that the U.S. House will vote on this week, possibly as early as today.
With the fossil fuel industry increasing in its last-minute lobbying efforts, it’s urgent that your U.S. Representative hears from you about your support of this bill and the importance of moving forward with both renewable energy and vehicle efficiency.
Please call the House switchboard today at (202)225-3121. Use the talking points below as a guide to let your Representative know that you support a strong energy bill that promotes clean, renewable energy.
Thank you,
John DeCock, President
Clean Water Action
Talking points for your call
Ask your Represenative to:
Support an energy bill that includes a renewable electricity standard of at least 15% by 2020 and that requires cars to get at least 35 miles per gallon by 2020.
Let your Representative know that:
More efficient cars and cleaner electricity are a necessary step forward in solving global warming and cutting our dependence on fossil fuels.
Dirty energy sources such as trash incineration should not be counted towards reaching the “renewable” energy requirement
A strong energy bill will lead to technologies that protect public health and keep our air and water cleaner.
A strong energy bill is good for our economy: It will create green jobs, reward innovation, and reduce the amount of money sent to enrich oil and coal companies.
