Muddy V and The House Rockers

muddy-v.jpgThis West Michigan blues band put on a great show at Rivercity Slims in Grand Rapids recently. Muddy V and the House Rockers front man Muddy V (Chris VanHoven) cranked out a soild wall of blues behind the bands two guitars (Gary Farwig, Roadhouse Rick Hunter), bass (Mark VanHoven), and drums (Tim Gibson). I made it to the show a bit late but in time to hear the last set and let me tell you Muddy V and the House Rockers were on fire at this point. The atmosphere and brand new state of the art sound system of RiverCity Slims enhanced the near perfect performances of classic blues covers from the Doors, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Their performance of “I Can’t Understand” was electrifying to say the least. Their sound, overall, was smooth as silk and blues swingin until the end.

The band receives
4 out 5 Rudy Points for band harmony
5 out 5 Rudy Points for stage presence
4 out of 5 Rudy Points for bringing the true sound of the Delta so far north.

Here is the band info straight from Muddy V and the House Rockers from their MySpace page.

Muddy V. & the HouseRockers are here to party! We’ve got a deep passion for the Blues - serving up a musical cocktail of Chicago-style electric blues with a twist of Rock-n-Roll. While we’ve got our roots in the urban Blues of Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Freddie King and Elmore James, we trace our influences to Jonny Lang, J. Geils Band and Los Lobos. From Texas to Chicago to East LA, all have left their mark on Muddy V. and the band. The vocal and harp stylings of Muddy V. are those of a man possessed by the Deep Blues. The HouseRockers employ double Strat guitar harmonies, with a steady rollin’ danceable back beat. If Muddy V. & the HouseRockers don’t get you dancing and grooving, no one can!
