Try Luge in Muskegon

Learn To Luge In Muskegon Michigan

There exists only three luge tracks in the United States. Lake Placid, New York, Park City,Utah and one in Muskegon Michgian which is geared more to the common man, woman or child in the winter months!!! For $40 you are treated to a two and half hour session of this Olympic sport said to be the fastest sport on ice. Participants are taught the basics under the instuction of luge coaches on site who show you proper techniques in steering and safety. You then carry your sled up a flight of stairs which ascend the side of the dune to the beginners start. Here you will receive additional coaching before beginning your descent down the track, flashbacks of your childhood when you were out wearing moon boots… plastic bags on the inside… riding down anything that resembled a slope flashes back into your head. On your out of control super saucer. In luge you are negotiating each turn and wondering why you were doing this in the 1st place. Many who try this sport in Muskegon become hooked and particpate in the league night and other races that are conducted throughout the season. I tried it quite a few years ago and became hooked and trained out in Lake Placid for awhile in my teens. This could be the start of your Olympic quest!!! Though you would most likely have to be in your early teens to have any real chance at eventually make the Olympic team. One of my childhood friends Mark Grimmette went on to be an Olympic medallist in the sport and is currently still competing on the national team. I still work at the track during the winter months and still slide in leagues at the ripe old age of 35. You can check out their website at www.msports.org
